The city of Zhuji is known as ‘the pearl kingdom’ for its rich pearl. Yearly the fresh water pearl has been sold from this city’s market occupies 60% in gross sales in China and 30% of global sales. In the past decades, Zhuji in Zhejiang Province has been helping China become the world’s number one producing country of freshwater pearl. Today, Zhuji is trying to become the pearl trading center in the world. Rivers and ponds in the city have been well protected from agricultural and industrial pollution. The family pearl farms are gradually being replaced by large-scale professional raising farms and sale companies.
